When is the best time to visit Korea?
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable. Cherry blossoms open in late March in Busan and Jeju and reach Seoul in early April. Autumn colour runs from mid-October into early November. Late June through July is monsoon season, and August stays hot and humid.
How long should a Korea trip be?
Three days covers one city. Five to seven days covers Seoul plus one other region at a relaxed pace. Seoul to Busan takes about two and a half hours by KTX, so a two-city trip does not need a domestic flight.
How do people get around?
Subways run in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, and Incheon, with signs and announcements in English. A T-money card, sold at any convenience store, works on subways, buses, and most taxis nationwide.
Cards, cash, and connectivity
Card payment is accepted almost everywhere, including small restaurants and market stalls. Free Wi-Fi is common in cafรฉs, subways, and buses. Prepaid SIM and eSIM plans are sold at both Incheon Airport terminals.

When do Koreans actually eat?
Lunch runs from around noon to 1pm, and dinner starts near 6pm. Many restaurants close between 3pm and 5pm, so it is worth planning sightseeing around that gap rather than hunting for a late lunch.
Everyday meals vs. occasion meals
Kimchi jjigae, bibimbap, and gimbap are everyday food โ fast, inexpensive, and eaten alone without comment. Korean barbecue, samgyetang, and hanwoo beef are shared occasion meals that take longer and cost several times more.
Where people go for food
Gwangjang Market in Seoul for street food, Jeonpo Cafรฉ Street in Busan for coffee, Jeonju Hanok Village for bibimbap, and Jagalchi in Busan for seafood.
Eating alone
Solo dining is normal at gimbap shops, noodle bars, and convenience stores. Some barbecue and stew restaurants still have a two-person minimum, so check before sitting down.

Do you tip in Korea?
No. There is no tipping culture in Korea. Restaurants, taxis, and hotels do not expect a tip, and staff will often hand the money back.
Which map app works in Korea?
Google Maps gives limited walking and driving directions in Korea because of mapping-data restrictions. Naver Map and KakaoMap are what people actually use, and both have English interfaces.
Customs travellers miss
Pour drinks for the people beside you rather than for yourself, and pass or receive things with two hands when the other person is older. Shoes come off at hanok stays, temples, and many traditional restaurants.
Season by season
Spring brings fine-dust advisories worth checking each morning. Summer is humid with a monsoon stretch. Winter in Seoul sits below freezing and is dry; Busan and Jeju stay noticeably milder.
