Three unhurried days in Gwangju, Korea's art city. Day one walks the downtown Chungjang-ro strip from a media-art centre to a quiet museum and a K-pop photocard shop. Day two crosses to the Sangmu district for bookstores, themed cafes and a gacha shop. Day three slows down in Gwangsan-gu with a baking class and a bakery trail. Each day stays inside one neighbourhood, so you walk more than you commute.

Gwangju rewards travellers who slow down. This three-day route keeps each day inside one neighbourhood — the downtown Chungjang-ro strip, the newer Sangmu and Nongseong district, and suburban Gwangsan-gu — so most of your movement is on foot and the bus or taxi rides between areas happen once a day, not all day. The mix leans toward contemporary art, K-pop and character shops, and an unusually strong cafe and bakery culture rather than historic sights.

Gwangju has one subway line running roughly east to west through the city, plus an extensive bus network; between them they connect all three neighbourhoods in this plan. Downtown Chungjang-ro is entirely walkable. Sangmu to Nongseong and the hops within Gwangsan-gu are short taxi or bus rides. Taxis are inexpensive by Korean standards and are the simplest option for the evening stops.

Day one stays downtown and runs west to east along Chungjang-ro. Day two crosses to the west side and works from the Sangmu business core out to Nongseong; because kitchens there mostly open for dinner, a cafe covers the midday meal. Day three is deliberately slow and stays in Gwangsan-gu. Nothing in the plan requires backtracking across the city.
